Days for Girls -- Training Day

Today a group of women from the Kemptville Quilters Guild got together at the Pentecostal Church outside Kemptville to have a training day for the Days for Girls Program.

This program creates and delivers feminine hygiene kits for young girls in developing countries.  These kits allow the girls to carry on going to school while they have their monthly menstruation period.  The goal of the program is to get a kit to every girl in the world who needs one by the year 2022.

This summer we have committed to completing 50 kits so that they can be taken to an orphanage in Haiti that is sponsored by a Quebec organisation.

We have been very fortunate that all the materials needed to complete these 50 kits have come from the women who are doing the sewing.  Money, fabric, thread, plastic bags etc. were generously given so that we can make up the 50 kits.

If you want to join in, just mention your interest to Pat Kiteley or Julia Older.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.  Quilting fabric, bright and patterned,  Polyester thread,  Flannel that is dark with a pattern on it and of course, MONEY!   To learn more about the project go to daysforgirls.org.

Here's a few pictures of the women working, and soon we'll have pictures of the finished kits!!

Let`s set up the room first, Then we`ll get sewing!

Make sure your machine is ready to go.

Then get a little instruction on how to start the project.

Set to work, and check it twice!

Perhaps a little consultation on this one point!

And back to work to finish this part.

Don`t forget to keep track of the pieces.

And pay attention to the details!

Many thanks to Julia Older, Theresa McCaig,  Sheila Gibson, Judy Black, Pat Reid,  Joelle Flageole,
Elaine MacNaughton,  Earla Blair, and Jean Drozda for attending and going agreeing to help sew for the next while.
Keep checking the BLOG to see how the project is coming along.

  2. Hello KQG - I was just today reflecting on the amount of waste that goes into the local landfills concerning menstrual and incontinence pads and pantyliners. I believe your product could address some of the enviromental issues locally as well. As far as diapers, well, this alone would be a start - one step at a time...
BRAVO on your current work with the personal pads for the young ladies in bloom.
Thank you so much for being part of the solution. Bless you and your team.. :)
