April 2016

In House Quilt Show
"Our Girls Have Style!"

The April meeting was all about quilts made by members.
The thirty quilts were divided into styles,
such as American Country, Modern or Photo Transfer.
A short commentary written by the quilter was out.
The response was very positive, and we will definitely consider doing this again.

A sampler in the American Country Style.

This was made by Sandy White and is a picture of
her grand daughter. There must be 1000 pieces in this item!

Made by Ann Hedberg, this "One Block Wonder" was
so inspiring, we hope to have a class in this technique  next year!

                                                       Another made by Ann Hedberg,
this was a Round Robin, done in Christmas Fabrics.

Made by Theresa McCaig for her husband,
this was a photo transfer quilt, of animals they have owned.
Made by Pat Kiteley, the circular parts were from
a Hey Day sale in Kemptville and are possibly from
the 1950's.  The other colored fabric is 1930's reproductions.

Made by Sandy White,
this applique and kaleidoscope are a king size wonder!

Thanks to everyone who brought in quilts.
More will be featured soon.

Sherida Giddings
"Judy Niemeyer Quilts"

Our March 14th meeting featured guest speaker Sherida Giddings from Ottawa. Her expertise is paper pieced quilts.  Sherida is a Judy Niemeyer Certified Teacher and told us the story of how this came to be.  Her trunk show featured many of the quilts that she has made in the last two years in order to achieve this certification; as well as a few others.  She brought along a good selection of Judy Niemeyer patterns for sale as well.
The evening was spectacular with lots of praise for her energy, talent and accomplishments.  Here's a few of the quilts she brought along.

Elaine Quehl, Art Quilter!

What a fabulous way to start a new year!
Elaine Quehl, art quilter, international teacher, fabric dyer, and instructor visited us to kick off 2016 for The Kemptville Quilters Guild.
What a fabulous night, and what fabulous inspiration.

This piece is titled, Losses 2 and was even more impressive to see.

The Red Stool is one of three items Elaine made with the
theme of a stool in amongst the hosta leaves.

A very recent piece called Encore, is four views of
hosta leaves as they go through the seasons.
