20th Anniversary Guild Activities

Celebrating 20 years of KQG: Sept 2019

This is the 20th Anniversary of the Kemptville Quilters Guild.   Here's a few of the activities planned for the year long celebrations.

The September 9th meeting will be a Kick Off event.

We'll be having a Birthday cake, Special Guests and of course the BED TURNING.   20+ quilts with stories that go with them.

Remember to bring your NAME TAG to this meeting as you'll be getting "a little bit of bling" to commemorate the year.

There will be 3 raffles going on throughout the year.   So bring some cash to get tickets for each one.
** monthly raffle of quilting goodies.
** a designer QUILT KIT raffle
** a HUGE Basket raffle drawn at the end of the year

Our Block of the Month (BOM) Program has been tailored to the add to the celebrations as well.  All blocks made from the monthly patter and brought in will go towards a number of double bed size quilts.  These quilts will be part of the Outreach Program for upcoming requests.  Each Block you bring in will earn you a ticket on the monthly raffle.  The more blocks you bring in, the more chances you will have to win.

We're proud of this event and want the local community and our quilting friends to know about our Guild.    An article by Sally Smith about the Bed Turning is currently in the InsideOttawaValley.ca web site.  And watch for an article in the upcoming Canadian Quilters Association Magazine winter issue.

See you on September 9th for the beginning of a year of celebrations!

Monthly Meetings

Our Monthly meetings start in September and go through to June.  The meetings are held at the Pentecostal Church  which is about 5 kilometers west of Kemptville on Highway 43.
Doors are usually open at 6:30 and the meeting starts at 7.

We may have a Shop of the Month set up in the lobby so bring along some cash.  Fabrics, kits, notions and books are usually available.

Our meeting often starts with the president making a few announcements about things going on with in our Guild or in the area.  There are a lot of other Guilds within a short drive of Kemptville and many of them share information regarding speakers and workshops they are offering.  Occasionally the Chairperson of one of the Guild activities will get up and speak.

We always have a Speaker at the meeting, and the these are listed in the Program tab of this blog.  The presentation usually lasts about 45 minutes, and there's always time for questions.

Members provide refreshments during a 15 minute break.

BOM or Block of the Month

This is our Block of the Month for 2018.  It features a combination of applique and traditional blocks.
It's your choice if you want to do hand applique, or machine applique.  The finished quilt is 47 x 47.

At the Monthly meeting you will be able to see the next block in the BOM series.  And the day after the Meeting all members will receive an email with direction and patterns.   The first email will include all you need to know about fabric requirements.

Library

The Library for the Guild is displayed in a room during the monthly  meeting.  We have about 150 books, two magazine subscriptions and three rulers available for members to borrow.   It's a simple sign out system with an envelope and card in the front or back of the books.  Please remove the card, sign your name and the date and leave the card in the Circulation box on the book table.  Please respect the Loan Period of 1 month.
Suggestions for new books are greatly appreciated.

Outreach

Outreach committee members coordinate the production and distribution of items made by guild members. This includes quilts, pillow cases and place mats.

At every monthly meeting there are kits available for you to work on. These kits will contain a pattern and fabric.   Batting is also available.  Once you have finished the top and  know the size of batting you will need, just contact Kathy Brown at kathyannebrown@gmail.com.  If you would like someone else to quilt your top, just hand it back in at the next meeting.  We currently have a member who has volunteered to quilt for Outreach quilts.
A sign out sheet keeps track of what's out and when it's returned.   If you would like to make pillow cases or place mats for the Guild also get in touch with Kathy.

The finished quilts are donated to the local offices of Family and Children`s Services of Leeds and Grenville.  Last year we donated 90 quilts, which was a new record!  Most years
we donate about 60 quilts.

The quilts are for all ages of children who are in need of services.  Some are being taken into care, but others may be just receiving services.  Others are starting out on their own, and have been in care some time in the past.
Every quilt is appreciated, and loved!

All we need is your time and expertise.

Outreach also responds to requests for quilts from non profit groups such as Habitat for Humanity and RING (Refugees in North Grenville).
